LATITUDE 534

53° Latitude and 4° Longitude are the co-ordinates of Llanberis, the village born of the slate, nestled at the foot of Snowdon, the mighty super volcano whose eruption 450million years ago covered the land with volcanic rock, eons later providing the finest rock climbing and ridge scrambling in the UK.

Latitude 534 was set up by Cat Forster and Pete Marshall. Friends for a long time, we have worked together for over 15 years and constantly remind ourselves how lucky we are to do what we love. We want to provide excellence in the outdoors, quality instruction, supportive and inclusive access to the outdoors. Not just for climbing or mountaineering, but also to watch a sunset from the beach, to bring a picnic lunch to waterfall, to spend more time away from computers and phones. We want you to get the most out of your experience, whether you want to refine your technical skills or are trying to find a space to breathe.

As a general guide we charge £240 per day. There will always be cheaper options, but we are good at what we do and with a combined 30 years working in the outdoors we wanted to build a company that reflected not just the wealth of our experience, but also the quality of the work we provide.

I grew up in London but was always heading off to any park and woods I could find.  When I moved to Leeds I loved how easy it was to get out of the city and explore the moors.  I started rock climbing around the same time and would head off for camping and climbing expeditions to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Little did I know then that I would eventually become a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and get to live and work in the mountains.

I count myself very lucky to have traveled widely; hiking, climbing and camping in all sorts of places all over the world. I have always felt more comfortable out in the hills. I relax, I breath deeper and time slows down a little. For me it doesn’t matter if it’s a dog walk on the beach or a multi-day ascent of an Alpine mountain, as long as there are wide open spaces, I’m happy.

Pete Marshall

Pete loves climbing and surfing, ontop of being awfully busy raising two children. He has plans one day to write a better personal bio!

…..one day!
